While sketching and envisioning a profile for the Handpipe, we sought to purify and simplify the geometry of the spoon pipe in order to create a minimally-modern take on the classic. Inspired by sherlock pipes as well, we merged the joinable mouthpiece idea from these pieces into our design to allow for inserting filters.
Between our lungs and the flaming plants, something was missing. The Handpipe mouthpiece holds 9mm filters to help transform scorching hits into much more blissfully smooth enjoyable ones. Activated carbon, ie Charcoal, inside the filters binds to undesirable compounds, so you draw in more of the good and less of the bad.
Toting a jar and grinder to smoke a bowl is a tired routine. The Smart Cap is a magnetically sealed lid for the Handpipe's bowl so you can pack a gram inside instead. More than just a storage lid though, the Smart Cap attaches to the base of the bowl to hold the Handpipe steady while loading. Use it as a display stand too. When all the smoke has settled, put the cap back on and keep the ashen-smell from permeating into the rest of your life.
We selected materials with the aim of creating a piece that could survive a lifetime of use indoors and outdoors, looking great throughout. The Handpipe’s zirconia ceramic bowl is inert and tasteless while you smoke, and is surrounded by a stainless steel outer bowl that keeps it protected. The Silicone cap and PPSU Resin mouthpiece are each similarly durable, and specifically selected for their low-toxicity and use commonly in medical devices.
Blending in with modern style, while being small enough to stow in your bag and pocket were the first goals of making a more discrete on-the-go smoking companion. But we took things a step further by making a completely smell-contained design with the addition of the Smoke Tool that caps the end of the Handpipe's mouthpiece. Pack it in your bag and don't worry about everything else smelling like the inside of your pipe.
